The Sora Program in Virginia

Virginia families deserve more than a one-size-fits-all education. Sora Schools is working to bring its full-time online learning model to Virginia public school divisions, offering students a flexible, rigorous alternative that keeps them enrolled and connected to their local public school while giving them access to something genuinely different.

Offering choices to retain families and grow enrollment.

Sora's accredited, award-winning program has been developed and refined over six years, producing a proven model of online education that is now making its way to Virginia families. Our interdisciplinary courses weave together Humanities, STEM, and Math standards into cohesive, engaging learning experiences built around themes that matter to students, from marine biology to architecture to social justice. Small class sizes, synchronous instruction, and a dedicated caring community ensure that every student is known, supported, and challenged. For Virginia families who want the flexibility of online learning without sacrificing community, rigor, or connection to their local school, The Sora Program offers a path forward. This is what school can be.

The Sora Program

The Sora Program

We collaborate with public schools to build on their strengths, not replace them. Students remain enrolled in their home district, but gain access to flexible, project-based learning that aligns with state standards. Districts benefit from new options to serve students who might otherwise leave for alternative programs, homeschool, or charters—helping schools stay competitive while expanding equity and access.

Aligned With Standards

All programs are designed to fit within state and district graduation requirements, ensuring accountability and compliance.

Supporting Teachers

Programs are taught by district- or state-certified educators, and we help provide professional development, resources, and co-teaching support.

Real-World Classes

Our STEM and Humanities courses are interdisciplinary and based around real-world topics, ensuring learning feels relevant and exciting for every student.

Flexible Curriculum

Public schools can utilize our existing programs or work with us to develop their own, offering flexibility and personalization.

Cost-Effective Options

The Sora Program will expand your budget, not only fit within it. We have a track record of attracting new families to your district with our unique, beloved program.

Keeping Students Enrolled

By offering families more choices, districts can prevent students from leaving for alternative programs, charters, or homeschooling.

Curriculum

Real learning
for real life

Blending Sora's forward-thinking, project-based curriculum with Virginia's commitment to academic excellence, the program offers students live, instructor-led classes, mastery-based assessment, and dedicated advisor support – all aligned to Virginia Standards of Learning and delivered by Virginia Board of Education-licensed teachers. Students aren't passive recipients of content, they are active investigators, collaborators, and creators, demonstrating mastery through real-world projects, presentations, and portfolios rather than traditional tests alone.

A Day in The Sora Program

Students benefit from a balanced schedule that combines structure and flexibility. Monday through Thursday include approximately 2.5 hours of interactive live classes, followed by a dedicated block for independent homework, project work, and just-in-time support. Families can also choose to participate in the optional in-person days, adding even more opportunities for connection and support.

The schedule below is an example—we'll design a structure that works best for your district's goals.

Increasing Access to a Great Education

Increasing Access to a Great Education

We work with districts to ensure every student can fully participate. That means collaborating on technology access, aligning with special education and 504 services, and keeping families connected to the supports they already rely on.

Our goal is to remove barriers—not create new ones.
